- NEA Moving from Baltimore to Timonium, Citing Crime as Cause
Baltimore -- In an email sent to Mayor Dixon last week, venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates, said it is moving its offices out of Baltimore because of crime. NEA, originally based in Baltimore, has offices on St Paul Street near the Belvedere Hotel. While it's not clear to this publication why NEA even wrote this email, NEA said that the neighborhood will lose $200,000 annually in revenue. NEA says that over the last several years many of its employees cars have been broken into, some have been robbed at gun point, and employees have been menaced by homeless people.

- Prism Microsystems Commits to Common Criteria Certification
Columbia -- Prism Microsystems said that it has begun the process of achieving Common Criteria certification at Evaluation Assurance Level 2+ for EventTracker, its SIEM (Security Information and Event Log Management) solution. Common Criteria is an international framework for evaluating security capabilities and features of commercial technology products. It is accepted by 25 countries through the CCRA (Common Criteria Recognition Agreement), including the United States Government which requires federal agencies to procure only those commercial security products that have been tested by an accredited laboratory.

- Ciena Chosen for New Telehouse Data Center
Linthicum -- Ciena reported last week that its CN 4200 FlexSelect Advanced Services Platform was selected by Telehouse Europe to enable connectivity for the new Telehouse 3 data storage facility near Paris. Established in 1988 and owned by Japanese service provider KDDI, Telehouse Europe offers data center facilities and connectivity, for mission critical IT systems, to more than 800 customers. Ciena’s CN 4200 is deployed in a point-to-point optical network with protection routes, seamlessly connecting Telehouse 3 with the Voltaire facility in central Paris.

- SafeNet Receives Enabling Technology of the Year Award
Belcamp -- SafeNet announced that it has been selected by Frost & Sullivan as the recipient of the 2009 North American Department of Defense C4ISR Enabling Technology of the Year award. The award was given for SafeNet's Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) technologies.

- Davis Calibration Releases FastQuote 2.0
Baltimore -- Davis Calibration, a provider of calibration of test, measurement and control instrumentation, has released FastQuote 2.0, a new version of its cost estimating tool for calibration services. The new version contains calibration information on more than 48,000 instruments from thousands of manufacturers. The number of steps to complete a quote request was reduced by two-thirds (66%) and the overall speed of the application is greatly increased compared to the previous version.

- Kaulkin Information Systems Joins Chesapeake Innovation Center
Annapolis -- Kaulkin Information Systems (KIS), a provider of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS-Cloud), has moved into the Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC). The CIC, located in Anne Arundel County, is a business accelerator for early stage technology firms. - TEDCO Awards Twelve Companies each About $50,000
Columbia -- The Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO), has awarded twelve companies each about $50,000 through the Ft. Detrick Technology Transfer Initiative (FDTTI). The companies included Aid Networks, APE-Bridgepath Scientific, Bacilligen, BioAssay Works, Biomedica Management, CynerGene IDMP, DS-Byte Solutions, HeMemics Biotechnologies, Imagilin Technology, Intelligent Substrates, Juxtopia, and Theradigm. This is the second round of funding through the program’s $750,000 extension.

- Signal Hill Adds Three Senior Investment Bankers
Baltimore -- Signal Hill Capital Group, a specialty investment banking firm, reported last week that it has expanded its investment banking team through the additions of Senior Investment Bankers J.
