- TidalTV Raises $16 Million in Series B Funding

Baltimore -- TidalTV, a video advertising supplier, reported last week that it has raised more than $16 million in recent funding led by Comcast Interactive Capital, as well as New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Valhalla Partners. Chairman & CEO, Scott Ferber pioneered pay-for-performance Internet marketing through Advertising.com, an online advertising network he co-founded in 1998. With TidalTV, Ferber is applying complex optimization mathematics to the management and delivery of video advertising campaigns. Comcast Interactive Capital's Managing Director David Horowitz will join TidalTV's Board. The new funding will enable TidalTV to expand its development of advanced targeting and ad decisioning capabilities.

- Constellation Energy To Invest $90 Million in Solar Systems

Baltimore -- Constellation Energy said that it will invest $90 million in the development of commercial photovoltaic power systems. Building off of government renewable incentives, said the funds will be available for customer-sited solar installations of 500 kilowatts or larger which begin construction before mid-year 2010. The funds will enable Constellation Energy to finance, design, construct and own solar installations for customers and supply the power generated on-site to the customer. This structure makes it possible for customers to deploy on-site solar and meet sustainability goals without incurring upfront costs. Approximately $18 million of the capital commitment has already been committed to projects soon to begin development in Maryland and New Jersey.

- MAVA Announces Dates for Capital Connection ’10

Baltimore -- The Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (MAVA) announced that this year's Capital Connection ‘10 Conference will be held in May 19-20 in Baltimore. The annual conference focuses on later-stage, high-growth and early-stage, high performance companies from throughout the United States. This year's conference will focus in business opportunities in cybersecurity, health IT, wireless and telecom, digital media, cleantech, and education.

- Smiths Detection to Distribute Emergency Biological Screening Kit

Edgewood -- Smiths Detection reported last week that it has reached a distribution agreement with Rockville-based 20/20 BioResponse for its BioCheck powder screening test kits. The agreement gives Smiths Detection the ability to distribute a low-cost, biological threat assessment tool, that complements its other emergency and first response solutions. BioCheck is a patented and easy-to-use screening kit that combines a ‘best in class’ protein assay with a pH test to rapidly assess suspicious powders representing potential biological threats.

- Tenable Awarded Common Criteria Security Certification

Columbia -- Tenable Network Security, a developer of security monitoring scanners, last week said that it has achieved Common Criteria certification for its Security Center. Tenable's Common Criteria-certified product suite includes vulnerability management, log management and visualization solutions for IT procurement managers in the Federal and commercial sectors requiring conformance to a common ISO-based standard for assessing product security.

Columbia -- Eurotech, a supplier of embedded technologies, said that it has received a $1 million order from a major utility for ZyWAN cellular routing modems to support Smart Grid initiatives. The project calls for deployment of Eurotech ZyWAN units at base stations throughout the grid to manage power flow and wirelessly connect smart meters for residential and business clients.

- Metastorm Opens Hong Kong Office, Hires Asia Director

Baltimore -- Metastorm, a developer of Business Process Management (BPM) software, said that it is opening a new office in Hong Kong and has hired Paul Watts as Director of Asia Operations. Metastorm already has a number of customers in the region including AKPK, Bank Of China, Chubb & Sons, SBB Mutual, Standard Chartered Bank, and Talisman Energy. Metastorm says the new office will be valuable in providing local support to its customers. Paul Watts joins Metastorm from TIBCO.

- IndiSoft Adds Foreclosure Prevention Videos

Columbia -- IndiSoft and Coral Springs, Fla.-based Financial Literacy Solutions (FLS), last week announced a strategic partnership to bring Web-based tools to homeowners in need of foreclosure prevention assistance. Using a series of educational videos, FLS enables consumers to learn about their options to avoid foreclosure, and how to work with nonprofit counseling agencies to assist completing modification packages. Baltimore -- The Daily Record reported last week that Rob Terry has joined the paper as Managing Editor/Online and Special Publications. He will oversee all of the publication’s Web, blog, and social media operations.Terry brings nearly 15 years of journalism experience to his new position. Terry, a graduate of Towson University with a MA in Journalism from Northeastern University, began his career with Chesapeake Publishing. He moved to The Washington Post Co. in 1998, where he was a business and technology reporter for the Tech Gazette and the Washington Techway Magazine. Terry came to the Baltimore Business Journal in 2003 as a staff reporter and was promoted to Associate Editor and Web Editor in 2006.
