- Pyxis Engineering Acquired by Applied Signal Technology

Eldersburg -- Pyxis Engineering, an Eldersburg-based systems engineering firm to the Department of Defense and intelligence community, has been acquired by CA-based Applied Signal Technology, a provider of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) solutions. The deal worth up to $20 million includes an initial payment of $16.25 million in cash with a potential earn-out of an additional $3.75 million. Pyxis had approximately $11.7 million in revenue in 2008. AST says the acquisition allows it to quickly expand its software and network services business and create an effective, new integrated delivery structure in the Company’s new Network Intelligence business.

- GSE Systems Set to Raise $14,100,000 in Public Offering

Sykesville -- GSE Systems, a provider of real-time simulation and training solutions to the power industry, reported that it had priced an offering to sell 2,500,000 shares of its common stock at a public offering price of $6.00 per share. The Company expects the offering will yield net proceeds, before expenses, of $14,100,000 and intends to use the net proceeds for general working capital purposes and to fund acquisitions and other strategic opportunities. Roth Capital Partners acted as the sole underwriter.

- Tecore System Prevents Unauthorized Cell Phone Use in Prison

Columbia -- Tecore Networks, a supplier of mobile network infrastructure, reported that it conducted a test of its Intelligent Network Access Controller (iNAC) to show that it prevented contraband cell phone use by inmates in prison. The test was done with Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, and featured controlled tests of call and text message blocking, 911 call completion and lawful intercept. The tests were completed for each of the top four U.S. commercial carriers, highlighting the iNAC’s multi-technology capabilities.

- Netcordia Named to Inc. 500

Annapolis -- Netcordia said that it was named to Inc. Magazine's 2009 list of the 500 fastest growing privately held companies in the country. Netcordia’s three-year revenue growth of 534% earned its rank of #492 on the Inc. 500. Necordia is the 2nd fastest growing software company in the Baltimore area. Netcordia was founded in 2000. Its flagship NetMRI network management software provides network configuration and change management (NCCM).

- Sterling Life Insurance Adopts Chesapeake System Solutions

Owings Mills -- Chesapeake System Solutions, reported last week that Bellingham, WA–based Sterling Life Insurance Company has implemented provider of a family of insurance products, recently implemented hosted versions of Chesapeake's entire suite of software solutions.Currently, Sterling is using Chesapeake's solution to reconcile cash accounts plus related cash-clearing accounts. Sterling anticipates bringing on non-cash general ledger accounts as well. Sterling is also using Chesapeake products to retrieve daily bank account activity, analyze banking charges and manage claim payments made to health providers.

- GiftCardRescue.com Survives Sharks on ABC’s “Shark Tank”

Ellicott City -- GiftCardRescue.com, a gift card exchange Web site, said that after it appeared on ABC’s “Shark Tank,” on August 30, that it secured investment funds to expand its marketing campaign. Each week on “Shark Tank” entrepreneurs present their ideas to a panel of five multi-millionaires in hopes of convincing the moguls to invest their personal funds. Both Kevin O’Leary and Robert Herjavec will be investing personal funds to further expand GiftCardRescue.com’s marketing campaign. The amount of investment was not reported.

- Zenoss Enterprise Achieves VMware Ready Status

Annapolis -- Zenoss, a provider of IT operations management solutions, said that it has achieved VMware Ready status. This designation indicates that Zenoss Enterprise has passed a detailed evaluation and testing process managed by VMware and is now listed on the VMware Partner Product Catalog with VMware Ready accreditation. VMware Ready status, signifying to customers Zenoss Enterprise has passed specific VMware testing criteria and is ready to run mission-critical business applications and operations.

- Eurotech Launches Everyware Software Framework

Columbia -- Eurotech Group, an Italian-based supplier of embedded technologies with US headquarters in Columbia, has announced the launch of Everyware Software Framework (ESF) on its Intel Atom-based embedded platforms. ESF offers open source developer tooling based on the Eclipse Integrated Development Environment and Java Micro Edition Virtual Machine. The software enables OEM's of Eurotech's embedded single board computers to develop their end applications using ESF.
