- GSE to Build Plant Simulator for Westinghouse Nuclear Plants

Sykesville -- GSE Systems, a provider of real-time simulation to the power industry, said that it received a multi-million dollar contract from Westinghouse Electric to build an AP1000 nuclear power plant simulator based upon Westinghouse’s design for domestic customers. The simulators will be used by Westinghouse to demonstrate the plant design and control room human factors. The models that will be built in this current phase will be largely common to all future US-based AP1000 plants. The Westinghouse AP1000 design is currently speced in 14 announced US nuclear power plants. GSE expects to receive an order for a simulator for each of these plants.

- Systems Alliance Partners with Zencos to Offer SAS Services

Sparks -- Systems Alliance reported last week that it will partner with NC-based Zencos, to provide related to installing, optimizing and managing the SAS Business Analytics Framework. Initially, they will offer services focused on improving the performance and manageability of the storage infrastructure underpinning their clients’ SAS deployments, caused by the increasingly complex and growing volumes of data in an SAS implementation.

- PharmAthene. Closes on $19.3 Million Private Placement

Annapolis -- PharmAthene, a developer of medical countermeasures against biological and chemical threats, last week announced that it has closed on the issuance of 2-year, 10% unsecured senior convertible notes and common stock purchase warrants in a private placement of approximately $19.3 million. The placement gives the company $10.5 in new cash and has exchanged of about $8.8 million of notes issued in 2007. The Company plans to use the proceeds to repay old notes and for working capital.

- EventRebels Processes Millionth Registration

Ellicott City -- EventRebels, a provider for conferences and associations, said that it hit a milestone last week, by processing its millionth registration. Event Rebels says its online solutions have been used for all kinds of events over the years ranging from award galas to the Governor Ehrlich inaugural to 5000 person "city summits" to multi-day conferences ranging in size from 100 to 10,000 attendees. The millionth registration was processed for the Chesapeake Regional Tech Council.

- iJET Launches Service to Help Business Manage Risks in Mexico

Annapolis -- iJET Intelligent Risk Systems said that it has launched a new service called MX PROTECT. The service helps organizations mitigate and manage risks in Mexico. iJET launched the service in response to the steep rise in drug-related violence and outbreak of the pandemic H1N1 (2009) virus. MX PROTECT helps companies assess and monitor threats to operations, supply chains and personnel, offering threat assessments for major Mexican and real-time alerts.
